- It is essential that you consider what equipment and facilities you require well in advance of your deadlines and make the appropriate booking.
- The amount of time you can book equipment for is roughly in line with your length of facility booking.
- Some equipment such as Hot Wire Anemometers, Data Acquisition and lasers are under great demand and you will need to book these as soon as possible.
- Equipment falls under two general ownership categories; 'Departmental' and 'Research Group'. Departmental equipment can be booked by anyone and research group equipment only if that research group are not using it. In both cases you will need to have an account code.
- When you make a booking, you are responsible for the equipment. This means that you must make all reasonable efforts to ensure that the equipment is safe from theft or damage and that you are fully conversant with its use and its operating limits.
- Some equipment has many small parts and accessories. It is essential that you ensure that these stay with the equipment at all times and are returned at the end of your booking. Do not swap or mix parts from one system with those from another unless you have permission from a member of staff.
- No equipment must leave the department at any time.
- You are likely to need instruction or training for most bookable equipment, so please complete a training form and get your trainer to sign it. (Remember that for hazardous equipment such as laser based experiments and some other equipment, training is always required and you are not permitted to use the equipment until you have a signed a training form and completed all relevant training)
- Note that you are required to return the equipment at the end of your booking, in fully working order. Please check the equipment when you first collect it and report any problems as soon as possible.
- Do not hand the equipment over to someone else because you will remain liable until you return the equipment and close your booking.
- The repair or replacement costs for equipment that is damaged whilst it is booked to you, will be your research group's responsibility.
- Please handle all equipment with extreme care at all times. The equipment you are using may be worth many thousands of pounds and therefore it is essential that you handle with great care. Make sure that you keep equipment stored in its protective cases and that delicate parts are not exposed to dust or other contaminants. If you are in any doubt about how equipment should be handled or stored, please speak to the custodian or technical staff.
- Do not open up, dismantle, or dis-assemble any equipment unless you are fully conversant in that procedure and that you have had approval to do this from the custodian. Please be aware of the risk of damage to equipment when parts are removed. Seek advice before undertaking any such task.
- If you are in any doubt about any of these procedures, please contact the equipment guardian, Franco Giammaria or Nigel MacCarthy for more information.
- It is important that you have read all of the above and fully understand how this affects you with regard to your equipment booking. For some expensive or sensitive equipment, you will be asked to sign to agree that you have read and understood these terms.
